February 20, 2007: PACS is coming to JFK Medical Center

Palm Beach Radiology Professionals is anxiously awaiting and preparing for the Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS) “Go-Live” at JFK Medical Center scheduled for May 2007. The implementation of PACS offers many advantages for referring physicians including reduced turn-around-times on reports due to improved efficiency within Diagnostic Imaging. For example, with analog studies, an X-ray is taken and must be printed and hand delivered to the radiology reading room. With PACS the image is instantaneously available for the radiologist to interpret and dictate results. An additional benefit to referring physicians is the ability to access studies and the linked reports from any computer with internet access.

These advantages translate to better care for our patients. With increased efficiency and improved communication between the interpreting radiologists and referring physicians, PACS can shorten the time-to-diagnosis, accelerate treatment, and reduce hospital stays.

To date more than 25 new PACS workstations have been deployed throughout the medical center as well as 18 computers on carts throughout the surgical suites. For more information on the PACS project at JFK click here, or contact Phong Yang, JFK Medical Center PACS Administrator, at Phong.Yang@HCAHealthcare.com.

February 2, 2007: Abstract Accepted for Presentation

Palm Beach Radiology Professionals is pleased to have their abstract accepted for presentation as a Scientific Poster at the ASNR 45th Annual Meeting to be held June 9-14, 2007 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. The abstract title: Community Hospital’s Experience with Intraarterial Fibrinolysis and Mechanical Embolectomy in Patients Who present with an Acute Ischemic Event shows the group’s experience in providing leading edge stroke therapy. Few hospitals outside of well-known academic institutions offer this progressive therapy that Palm Beach Radiology Professionals offer at JFK Medical Center. Patient’s who suffer from an acute stroke can now be treated at a local community without having to travel to an academic hospital by either mechanical embolectomy using a MERCI clot Retrieval Device or intra-arterial thrombolysis.
